Growing Up & Away.

Born and raised in Calcutta. Global citizen by nature. There isn’t enough time to see the whole world and meet its unique cultures and people. But there are always books. To read and write.

Growing up in the Calcutta of the 70’s and 80’s was magical. Old world charm and history, and surrounded by people who loved music, cinema, books and travel, made it easy to dream. Childhood experiences shape us, and it is a pity we fail to record and preserve them. My hunger for more was not defined by the Internet or television. It was always about discovering new things. Finding stories about people and places. When I left Calcutta in 1994, I knew that I was never going back to live there again. Yet, I love the city that gave me a love for literature and theatre, for poetry and documentaries. Bangalore, the garden city, has been more than just a home to me for many years. It changed me and made me discover there were worlds beyond the state that had influenced my views about cultures.

Life, Passion &
Hobbies.

I follow my dreams, experience life in 70mm, and celebrate my imagination by writing fiction. My travel goals are evergreen, reading remains a passion, and in time, I hope to share more of the world through my photography.

Travel has a place of great importance in my life, now even more so after I re-discovered photography. After my pet Labrador Ginger passed away in 2012, I was devastated. From there started my new life phase with a camera that a colleague persuaded me to purchase. With photography, my leaning towards Art became strong once again. I had Art as a subject in school for nearly four years; I recalled that I used to paint and draw since I was five. The void that Ginger’s passing created was softly filled by drawing and painting once again, though I wasn’t disciplined about it. They became meaning distractions, giving me a sense of purpose. Traveling with photography groups revealed how much I had negated my own passion for writing, and how little I appreciated my talents. It was like going back to the ‘school of life’. Then in 2013 when I returned to Bangalore from Hyderabad, my real home, I decided to take the plunge and self-publish. My first book of short fiction had been ten years in the making.

Professional
Writer.

An ace storyteller in conversations. A creative writer in multiple disciplines. My passion to read and write has given more than just a platform to tell stories and share them with people, a profession.

Blessed are those who find their passions are inherent requirements to excel in their job. I have been one of those blessed people. I found my job became my reason for being very early in my life when I began working as a copywriter in advertising. Of course, it was all about the words. Crafting an ad or an article, creating something for people to believe in, and giving shape to an idea, has been an invigorating and delightful experience throughout my work life. My love for art, photography, theatre, films and books has been a huge contributor to whatever success I achieved during my career as a writer, communicator, brand and marketing professional, and of course, a storyteller. Many interviewers have confessed to me that my resume was a tough one; hard to pigeon-hole a person of multiple talents in multiple disciplines with a strong sense of quality and perfection. Ahem! Three years ago, someone approached me to write a book about their company. I have to admit that made me feel quite wonderful.
